Ambient mode does not stay lit, display turns off

I am using an Asus Zenwatch 3. Prior to the Wear 2.0 update, ambient mode worked normally. After a few seconds, the screen would dim and the ambient watch face would be shown. Since the update, ambient no longer works. After a few seconds, I will see it change to the ambient face, but then the display will turn off and go dark. This happens with all Watchmaker faces I tried. The built in watch faces work fine and go into ambient mode as usual. I have verified that ambient mode is enabled in the watch's display settings. Without ambient mode, I cannot tell what time it is without waking up my watch, so I have stopped using Watchmaker. I would really like to use it again because I like my custom watch face.
